The charming mountain village of Ortisei, located in the beautiful Val Gardena in the Italian Dolomites, is an ideal destination for winter sports enthusiasts. There are three lifts in the village; the Furnes gondola lift and the Funicolare Resciesa train take you up the north side. Mainly red slopes will bring you to Santa Cristina and allow you to explore the Val Gardena ski area. On the other side of Ortisei, the gondola takes you to the slopes of Seiser Alm. It is also easy to take the (free) ski bus to Santa Cristina and Selva di Val Gardena/Wolkenstein.
Ortisei is part of the famous Dolomiti Superski, a vast ski area with more than 1,200 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes for all levels. Val Gardena itself has more than 175 kilometres of varied runs and offers skiers and snowboarders spectacular views of the iconic Dolomites. One of the biggest attractions in this area is theSella Ronda, a unique ski tour that takes you around the impressive Sella massif. This 40-kilometre route connects several ski areas and valleys, allowing you to ski through a beautiful mountain landscape full of variety in a single day. From Ortisei, it is recommended to take the ski bus to Selva/Wolkenstein to start the Sella Ronda faster.
Ortisei is home to one of the most picturesque shopping streets in the Dolomites, which not only invites you to shop but is also rich in culture and history. As you stroll down the street, you can enjoy impressive sights and explore the village's heritage. Ortisei is known for its traditional wood carving; all over the village you will come across artfully decorated wooden sculptures that are a testament to this centuries-old craft. Besides Italian and German, the language spoken in Ortisei includes ancient Ladin, a Retro-Roman language deeply intertwined with the local culture.
Besides skiing, Ortisei offers plenty of opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing. After a day on the slopes, relax in the cosy après-ski atmosphere and enjoy authentic South Tyrolean hospitality. Ortisei is the perfect mix of winter sports fun and traditional mountain culture.
Part of the centre of Ortisei is car-free and only accessible to pedestrians.
