The ski areas of Kals and Matrei are connected via the chairlift Cimaross (from Matrei) and the two cable-cars (Kals I and Kals II – from Kals). Due to this connection the region of Kals & Matrei arose, offering ca 44 km of slopes (8 km blue, 25 km red, 6 km black and 5 km skiroute), it is the largest ski region of Ost-Tirol.

The Grossglockner Resort Kals & Matrei is very suitable for the whole family. The area has remained peaceful and waiting lines are minimal. There are more than 60 mountain reaching over 3000 metres with countless ski runs. The pistes available are for skiers of all levels and children can enjoy themselves in Kals as there is a playground in the snow situated. Snowboarders can find a snow park in the part of Matrei.

There are about 30 km of cross-country trails available in the area and in the direct surroundings, at The National Hoghe Park, there are even more possibilities available – e.g. the Virgental connected with the villages Pragarten and Virgen, situated on the side of Matrei. Moreover, you can make beautiful hikes in the area of Kals and Matrei. The local tourism board organizes a number of art- and culture hikes as well.
